Thermotron 4 Temperature Alarm Simulator
Frequently Asked Questions

1) Why do I need to use a temperature simulator to do
my quarterly alarm quality control?

Answer: The Thermotron 4 is the ONLY quick and
accurate way to heat and cool the  temperature
alarm probes to simulate an alarm condition.

2) My Thermotron 4 heat exchanger bottles are difficult
to remove from the heat exchanger. Is there anything I
can do?

Answer: Due to manufacturing tolerances, some of
the heat exchangers have a very tight  fit. The best
solution is to leave the plastic bottle in the heat
exchanger  and simply pour the glycerol from the
spare bottle kept in the refrigerator into the heat
exchanger bottle just before the test and then
return it to the spare bottle after the test.

3) On one of my refrigerators the temperature changes
so fast that the alarm display “jumps” in increments of
0.2 degrees C or greater.
What can I do to slow it down so I can tell where the
alarm goes off?

Answer: As soon as you see the display start to
skip digits, put the Thermotron 4 standby/operate
switch in the standby position. This turns off power
to the heat exchanger and will allow the
temperature change to slow. You may have to
experiment on some types of alarms to find the
right temperature to put the unit in standby.

4) When I put the Thermotron 4 into standby, the
temperature keeps moving in the direction it was headed
before.
Why doesn’t it stop?

Answer:  It will. There is a time lag between the
application (or removal) of heat and the change in
temperature reflected at the alarm probe. It has to
do with the mixing of temperature gradients formed
in the container and the heat capacity of the liquid.
